Privacy policy

I'm Chris Edwards, the developer of Guess My Word. This policy covers Guess My Word for iPhone and iPad, and this website. The advertising and purchase sections apply to iOS versions that include those features; older versions without advertising do not use the advertising services described below.
Your game data
Your guesses, game progress, records and preferences are saved on your device. I don't receive this game data or upload it to my own servers. You don't need an account, and the game can be played offline. Device backups may include the app's saved data under your Apple backup settings. I don't add a separate gameplay analytics service.
Advertising and consent
Ad-supported versions use Google AdMob to show banner ads and occasional full-screen ads outside gameplay. Google's User Messaging Platform manages consent and privacy choices where required. The app only requests ads when Google's consent system permits it.
Google's advertising services may process your IP address, approximate location inferred from it, device or app identifiers, information about ads shown and interactions with them, and crash or performance information. Google uses this information to deliver and measure ads, prevent fraud and operate its services. Non-personalised ads still involve data processing.
The app requests non-personalised ads and disables Google's publisher first-party ID. It does not request Apple's advertising identifier or permission to track you across other companies' apps and websites.
When available, use Ad privacy options on the app's home screen to review or change your choices. Availability depends on Google's requirements for your region and consent status. Read Google's privacy policy and how Google uses information for advertising for details of Google's processing and controls.
Removing ads and purchases
A one-time App Store purchase removes banner and full-screen ads. Apple handles payment; I don't receive your payment card details. The app uses Apple's StoreKit service to verify purchase ownership and restore it with the same Apple Account. It does not send purchase records to my own servers.
Once ownership is verified, the app stops requesting ads. Requests already sent to Google before a purchase cannot be withdrawn. Removing ads does not delete information that Google has already received. Apple's handling of purchases is described in Apple's privacy policy.
This website
This website has no advertising or analytics scripts, and does not set cookies for advertising or analytics. Its hosting and security providers process technical request information, such as IP addresses, requested pages and browser information, to deliver and protect the site. Cloudflare provides website delivery and security; see Cloudflare's privacy policy. Links to Apple, Google and other websites take you to services with their own privacy policies.
Contact, retention and your choices
If you email me, I receive your email address and the information you choose to include. I use it to answer your enquiry and keep correspondence only as needed to handle it and meet any applicable legal obligations.
Local game data remains on your device until removed. Deleting the app removes its local data; copies in backups are controlled by your backup settings. Apple and Google retain information they process under their own policies and may process it in countries outside your own.
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct or delete personal information, object to processing or withdraw consent. Contact me about information I hold at hello@guessmyword.app. For information held by Apple or Google, use the controls and contact details in their policies. You may also contact your local data protection authority, including the UK Information Commissioner's Office.
